HORSEMANSHIP

  • WHO WE ARE

Horsemanship is the basis for the horse project. All members must complete Horsemanship levels 1, 2 and 3 before entering another Horse project, with the exception of Horse Judging, Careers with Horses, Horse Showing and Packing, and Working Ranch Horse, which may be taken simultaneously with a mounted horse level. (See project descriptions for specific assessment requirements.) Horsemanship has seven levels. Depending on riding form, use the following to enroll in the appropriate level.

  • WHAT WE DO

The 4-H Horsemanship Program is designed to help youth develop riding skills, horse care knowledge, and responsible horsemanship practices. Participants learn the fundamentals of handling, grooming, saddling, and riding, progressing through different skill levels to improve their confidence and ability. The program emphasizes safety, sportsmanship, and a strong partnership between horse and rider while offering opportunities for competition, demonstrations, and leadership development. Whether working with a seasoned horse or starting with a green one, members gain valuable experience that fosters responsibility, discipline, and a lifelong love of horses.
